Ensuring Equity in STEM
The eSTEM Peer Mentoring Program was developed to provide intentional and goal-oriented training for peer mentors and peer mentees through the gracious support of the National Science Foundation. We are passionate about providing high-quality peer mentoring education to all individuals--especially those that have been historically marginalized in STEM fields. We believe that all students, regardless of gender, culture, race, or creed, should have the opportunity to develop a STEM identity and experience a sense of belonging in STEM.
Our mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in STEM peer mentoring relationships--both inside and outside of the laboratory context--and to enable equitable representation across STEM fields.
We believe that peer mentoring should be treated as an essential professional endeavor. That is, peer mentors and peer mentees should be provided with the necessary training and resources to support effective peer mentoring relationships. Our training modules, coupled with print and electronic resources, will prepare peer mentors and mentees for successful relationships. In addition, our faculty team is available to support and encourage peer mentoring relationships that are engaging, inclusive, and equitable.
